Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the group reach locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
