The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
