Space Traveler Reveals Emotional Distress Following Deluge of Harassment Following Journey

A pioneering space traveler has spoken candidly about her emotional downturn after facing a “tsunami of harassment” in the wake of a landmark journey to the edge of space.

Amanda Nguyen – celebrated as a scientist and civil rights advocate – was part of the 11-minute suborbital flight in the spring, which also included high-profile passengers.

The much-publicized journey was widely scrutinized by some, who cited its expense and ecological impact.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Ms. Nguyen, who became the pioneer for her community, stated the negative reaction buried her dreams under an torrent of sexist abuse.

Her own dream of becoming an astronaut was paused after an attack during her college days, leading to a long campaign for accountability.

Months following achieving her goal, she has stated the deepest pain is gradually receding, and she acknowledged the supporters whose kindness helped save her. “You were my salvation,” she said.

She added that despite the negativity, important benefits had emerged from the experience, such as elevated attention for her women's health research and chances to influence leaders.

The Historic Journey

The self-operating spacecraft departed its launch site in April, carrying the all-female team on a 11-minute journey that passed the Kármán line of outer space.
