Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then located numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for information.

A high-ranking political figure said the incident made him without words and had to be addressed promptly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
